Explore different types of Cloud Computing Models

Welcome to the newest and the next-gen services of Cloud Computing that has changed the complete model for enabling present, ubiquitous, convenient, and on-demand access to the shared pool of some of the best configurable resources. To present it in a more viable way we can say that it is related to networks, servers, applications, storage, and some of the other services. While proceeding with cloud computing services the instant update that can be rapidly provisioned and released is within the minimal efforts taken by the management or the service providers
interaction.

Today in this article, you will come to know about different types of cloud services and cloud computing. Let us all take a journey to it, and have a look at the core computing benefits that are beneficial for your business.

According to a recent survey, it is seen that the percentage of companies that are using public cloud is expected to rise to 51% in 2016. It is also seen that the server shipping to a public cloud will be growing approximately 60% CAGR (Compound Growth Annual Rate), while on the other hand the server spending is getting reduced by 8.6% over the coming two years.

According to a recent survey, the percentage of companies using a public cloud is expected to rise to 51% in 2016. It is estimated that servers shipping to a public cloud will grow at 60% CAGR (Compound Growth Annual Rate), while on-site server spending will be reduced by 8.6% over the next two years.

Moving further, cloud computing has indeed evolved over time and this is majorly divided into three broad service categories. The list for the same areas listed below.

● Infrastructure as a Service(IAAS)
● Platform as a Service (PAAS)
● Software as a Service (SAAS)

Now proceeding further, let us have a deep understanding and knowledge about these major services that are explained as below.

● Infrastructure As A Service (IAAS)

Infrastructure as a service (IAAS) is a form of cloud computing that provides virtual computing methods and resources over the internet. In the model of IAAS, it is the third party that provides hosts hardware, software, servers, storage and other infrastructure components that are on behalf of its users. It is the IAAS provider that is also known as host users’ applications that handles the tasks that are including the system maintenance backup and resiliency planning.

The platform of IAAS offers highly scalable resources that get adjusted as and when demanded and eventually makes it a well-suited base for the workloads that are temporary, experimental, or are having unexpected changes. Some other characteristics of IAAS environments include the automation process where the administrative tasks are mentioned, it has dynamic scaling, desktop digitalization and with all these policy-based services.

Taking it further, if speaking technically the IAAS market comparatively has a low barrier of entry, but this substantially requires a financial investment in order to build and support the entire cloud infrastructure. Apart from this if checking on the option available for mature open-source cloud management frameworks like the availability of openstack, the possibility of having a strong foundation of the software for your companies is all that you were looking for and wanting to get it built either for private cloud or to become a public cloud provider.

○ IAAS– Network: There are two major types of network services that are being offered by public cloud service providers. One is the load balancing and the other is DNS (domain name systems). The process of load balancing is providing one single point of access and that also to multiple servers that are running behind it. It is the load balancer that is distributing the network traffic among multiple servers that are using the algorithm for some specific kind of load balancing. Whereas, DNS is a hierarchical naming system for the computers, or any other gaming devices that are used for addressing IP for the identifications of the network. In other words, if to say DNS systems associated the names of the domain with IP addresses.

● Platform As A Service (PAAS)

Platform as a Service (PAAS) is a cloud computing model used to deliver the set of applications over the internet. The cloud providers use the model of PAAS to deliver hardware and software tools, that are used for the development of the application, to the user as a service. The viable option when going with a PAAS provider hosts the hardware and the software has its own infrastructure. As a result, PAAS frees users from having the installation of in-house hardware and software to develop or run a new application.

While using the computing process of PAAS it does not replace a businesses entire infrastructure but rather the business relies more on PAAS that provides key services, such as Java development or application hosting. No matter whatever is the underlying computing and software it is the PAAS provider that supports these features and here the
users only need to login and start using the platform which is usually through a web interface. The charges here then are charged on the basis of the access and that too on a per-user basis or on a monthly basis.

Here are some of the characteristics that are associated with the PAAS computing model.

● Scalability and auto-provisioning of the infrastructure.
● Security and confidentiality of the data.
● Setting of build and deployment tools for instant application management and deployment.
● Easy and accurate integration with other infrastructure components.
● Multi-tenancy, platform services that can be used by many other current users.
● Reporting, logging, and instrumentation of codes and practices.
● Management interfaces and/or API.

● Software As A Service (SAAS)

Software as a Service (SAAS) is a process in which the distribution of the software model is the applications that are hosted by a third party i.e the vendor or service provider and then those are made available for the customers over a network, and this is typically termed as the internet. With the change in technology, SAAS has become one of the most prevalent and increasingly model where the delivery of the work is quicker and faster. Now with this said
the underlying technologies are supporting the web service and service-oriented architecture (SOA) that is quite mature and here the new development approaches are done easily. One of the popular processes used is Ajax. SAAS is very much closely related to the ASP and that also on-demand of computing software with the delivery models. It is the IDC that identifies two slightly different delivery models for SAAS that is named as the hosted application model and the other software development model.

Let us proceed further and have a look at some of the core benefits of the services.

● Easier administration.
● Automatic updates and patch management.
● Compatibility: with all the users for the same version of the software.
● Easier collaboration, for the same reason.
● Global accessibility.

Now proceeding further, here are some of the other service categories that are more commonly classified and are named Anything as a Service (XAAS). The list for some of the others are as mentioned below

● Storage As A Service (SAAS)

This is the computing method that is termed to be a business model in which a large company rents space in their storage infrastructure and that to a smaller company or an individual company. If talking at the economical scale, it is the service providers infrastructure that is theoretically allowing them to provide a good amount of storage and that too at an affordable price. SAAS is indeed seen to be a good alternative for a small as well as mid-sized businesses that are or may be lacking the capital budget or the technical personnel so as to implement and maintain their own storage infrastructure.

● Communications As A Service (CAAS)

CAAD is an outsourcing service in which the enterprise communications solution can be given on lease and too from a single vendor. All these types of communications are included in the form of voice over IP (VoIP or Internet telephony), instant messaging (IM), video conference application for fixed as well as mobile devices and much more. It is the core responsibility for CAAS vendors to manage the hardware and the software by offering a quality of service (QoS). This service allows the business to selectively and collectively deploy the devices that are used for communication and with this, the payments can be done with the process of as and when required.

● Network As A Service (NAAS)

This is the cloud computing service that is used to integrate the current cloud computing in which the offerings are available with the direct, yet secure, client access to the infrastructure of the network. NAAS is the latest and the newest forms of the services that give access to the clients to have additional computing resources collocated with the switches and the routers. This process gives access to the flexible as well as an extended virtual private network (VPN), bandwidth on demand, tailor-made routing systems, firewalls, and many other such factors that are covered under NAAS.

● Monitoring As A Service (MAAS)

Monitoring-as-a-service (MAAS) is a framework that is used to facilitate the deployment of monitoring functionalities and that too for multiple services and applications within the cloud. The most common and used application for MAAS is online state monitoring, that keeps on tracking the certain states of the applications, systems, instances, or any elements that are deployable within the cloud. MAAS makes it simpler for users to deploy state monitoring at different levels of Cloud services.

Conclusion:

The culture of adopting cloud computing methods was termed to be a disruptive method and that was completely changing the entire concept of computing. When this method was adopted by the companies back in the year 2005 and 2006 there were many companies in the market who took this business benefit and have given their services on cloud migration. We at Cloud Stack Group is the leading as well as prominent service providers of these types of variety of Cloud hosting services that play a vital role.
